about the artist:
Ewan Smith has been obsessed with electronic music from an early age. Acquiring his first set of decks at 17, he’s been hooked and has never looked back.

Early influences included DJ's Danny Howells, John Digweed, Nic Fancuilli, Layo & Bushwacka and Laurent Garnier. After a trip to the infamous after hours club DC10 in Ibiza, Ewan’s musical repertoire transformed. Huge influences for him currently include DJ's Ricardo Villalobos, Luciano, Dan Ghenacia, Andrew Grant, Jose De Divina, Matthias Tanzmann, Sebo K, Jamie Jones, Dyed Soundorom, Marco Carola, Ralph Lawson, Peace Division, Inland Knights, The Mountain People, labels Moon Harbour Recordings, 8bit, Oslo, Cecille Numbers, Freerange, Remote Area, 2020 Vision, Plastic City, Tsuba & Wolf & Lamb.

Expect to hear in his sets a mixture of Deep House, House & Tech House. He plays music that has a groove, if there’s no groove, there’s no point!

Playing alongside the likes of Jamie Jones, Reboot, Lucio Aquillina, Andy Chatterley, Cagedbaby, Fergie, Sebestian Leger and Style Of Eye to name but a few, by the time Ewan turned 20 he had played at the top venues Edinburgh had to offer and made guest appearances on the Balearic island, Ibiza.

One of his highlights was being asked to play at Eden for one of the legendary workers parties. Ewan has been involved with successful night Not So Dirty which came to an end in 2008 after 3 successful years. Since deciding to end Not So Dirty, he went on to be Resident at infamous, long-running club night, Stereotype which is due to shut its doors one last time on 30th January after an amazing 7 years! He has also made appearances at nights such as Musika, KlickKlack (Newcastle), Hotbox (Glasgow), Fuse, Unlock The House, Wired and the Musika Arena @ Scottish Dance festival Fantasylands.

Ewan has also been responsible for bringing cutting edge artist Jamie Jones to Edinburgh, with his night “Offbeat” that he ran/promoted alongside fellow DJ’s Chris Graham and Jamie McKenzie.

As well as spinning tunes, Ewan also has a passion for making his own music and 2009 saw four tracks released on Newcastle’s very own ‘City West Records’, two of which were produced with Fellow producer and DJ, Kirk Douglas.

2010 looks set to be a big year for Ewan, with a number of new releases set to come out on "City West Records" and new night "SouLoco", which he started with fellow DJ/producers & promoters Chris Graham, Kirk Douglas & Jamie McKenize. Check them out @ The Speakeasy, Cabaret Voltaire in Edinburgh.

He is also about to embark on an Internship with Resident Advisor, to gain vital knowledge, experience and contacts within the music industry.

Episode 100 Rab Clark & Mick Macneil (Wired, Edinburgh)
January 31, 2010 05:50 AM PST

Wow.... our 100th podcast. It is only fitting that we present our 100th podcast today with the spirit of what the NOICE! podcast was founded upon... to provide an outlet for up and coming artists and DJ's from around the world. Here then, is another great mix by a Scottish duo in our ongoing series showcasing some of that countries best young Talent. NOICE! is proud to present Rab Clark & Mick Macneil.

about the artists:

Rab Clark and Mick Macneil‘s wires first crossed at a house party in the summer of 2004; a mutual friend’s introduction sparked the realisation that they shared a passion for electronic music and a friendship and creative partnership was born.

With their decks in tow, the boys began to play at house parties most weekends and after three years of becoming reputable and firm favourites behind the decks, their own club night became inevitable…..

As such, Wired’s wheel first started to gather momentum on Boxing Day 2007, when Rab and Mick held their first in a series of intimate, organised parties. Filling the capacity of their venues time after time led to the boys being approached by a larger club with a capacity of 1500, to host parties and showcase a range of local yet roaring, upcoming DJ talent from both Scotland and Ireland. Wired secured headliners such as Space resident, Smokin Jo and, understandably, got noticed in the process.

Their rolling recognition has since seen them spin in venues at the forefront of the electronic music scene, from Dublin to Ibiza, in addition to cementing regular slots at Musika, one of the UK’s biggest club nights.

With some of the biggest names in the industry having now had support from Wired over the past two years: Dubfire, M.A.N.D.Y, Luciano, Deadmau5, Eric Prydz and James Zabelia to name but a few, it’s future certainly looks bright.

Now plugged firmly into the Edinburgh club circuit, the boys’ credibility keeps on growing. Wired continues to insulate a current of electronic beats in the talent they exhibit, whilst simultaneously connecting with an ever-glowing and growing crowd.

If this vibe is anything to go by then their recent dabbles in production are sure to be the flickerings of switching something even bigger, right on…

Episode 99 Kirk Douglas (MUSIKA, SOULOCO@ Caberet Voltaire, CITY WEST, Edinburgh)

we continue our amazing feature of Killer Scottish DJ's today with one of Edinburgh's Rising Stars. Please welcome Kirk Douglas!!!! we are NOICE! and we Love Scotland.

About the Artist:
Based in Edinburgh but originally hailing from the North East of England, Kirk Douglas is steadily gaining a reputation as a credible DJ/ Producer. Starting off as most DJ’s do with a set of turntables, a few tunes and the will to get out there, he built up his collection from labels such as Subliminal, CR2 and Alphabet City. Kirk then broadend his musical horizons and developed a taste not jus for proper house music, but for everything Electronica from House to Techno hinging his tastes around, and picking up influence from the likes of Cocoon, Minus, Moon Harbour, Oslo, 8bit, Get Physical, and DJ’s such as Nick Curly, Johnny D, Marco Carola, Nima, Gorji, the list goes on.
After a year or so playing small underground nights in and around Edinburgh and Newcastle , he was getting recognised as someone who has passion for what he does. Derek Martin of the massive MUSIKA in Edinburgh offered him a residency which has seen Kirk support the likes of LUCIANO . MANDY , NIC FANCIULLI , ERIC PRYDZ, REBOOT plus many more.
This residency has helped drive Kirk’s love for the music and also took him in the direction of producing his own tracks, and as with DJ’n, he was hooked. Making music came naturally to him, over the course of a few years, and some hard work, he was making releasable tracks and was signed to Newcastle based label CITY WEST RECORDS. Now with DJ's across the globe playing his tracks and re-edits, Kirk is continuing to build on his foundations by starting his own night SOULOCO at Edinburgh's Caberet Voltaire. Recently featured in The Daily Record as one to watch for 2010, this year is promising to be a good one.

Episode 97 Laurie Neil (Glitch, Edinburgh)

As I promised... the next few weeks we will be sharing with you some rising stars out of the Great Country of Scotland. we feel that these Cats have a lot of potential and expect big things from them. first up... please give a NOICE! welcome to Laurie Neil.

A familiar story for you I’m sure…
After my first ‘mates’ holiday at the age of 17 to Ibiza, I instantly fell in love with the people, the parties and the music. I promptly bought desks and started spending all my hard earned cash on vinyl.
A few years on and I’m still mad for records (no vinyl of-course!). I won the Scottish Open Decks DJ competition, based in Edinburgh, in November 2007 and have been playing out regularly since then. To date I have been resident at several Edinburgh club nights including Cream and Flux in 2008. 2009 saw me playing more gigs and competitions. I entered a DJ completion for Scotland’s first dedicated Dance Music festival, EH1. From 400 entrants, I finished in the final 6.
I’ve promoted and ran 2 club nights since the first competition – HOOKED & GLITCH. HOOKED runs no more due to the venue closing. My efforts are now focused on GLITCH. It proves a platform for me to play the music I love to the clubbers of Edinburgh. It has also allowed to give some exposure to other local DJs that I respect and admire. I’m building the night steadily and slowly, looking to book some bigger guests. I’ve also this year (2010) secured a gig at Edinburgh’s, and one of Scotland’s leading club nights, the mighty Musika. I can’t say which, but one of Glasgow’s bigger nights has shown some interest too also – I’m looking to develop this in the next few months.
I’ve been learning the dark art which is production for a number of years now and am looking have my first record released this year.
I like to play with some energy in my sets, always keeping the vibe pretty uplifting. I’m playing more house of late but also play Tech-house and techno for tougher floors. I’m loving the sounds coming from Amsterdam, Buzzin’ Fly, 2020 Vision, dirtybird, Mihalas Safras, Tim Green, Julien Chaptal, San Francisco, Simon Baker, Cocoon.
This year I hope to continue building GLITCH steadily; promote myself further a-field out-with Edinburgh and all over Scotland and continue learning all I can about dance-floors and the people who grace them at the weekend. 

Episode 96 Chez Damier ( KMS, The Music Institute, Prescription)
January 14, 2010 08:57 AM PST
itunes pic

every so often... our decks are graced by legends. this is one of those times. back in 1992 KMS (Kevin Saunderson's Label) sent me a load of vinyl from this cat. the rest you can say is History as I immediately became a fan of his production. recently... I contacted Anthony (Chez's real name) and asked him to prepare a mix for the NOICE! podcast. what an honor to have this legend on the show... if you like House music... you are in for a real treat. so without further ado, sit back and prepare yourself for the amazing sounds of one of my favorite producers of all time. NOICE! is proud to present...... CHEZ DAMIER...

Chez Damier: A work in progress

KMS, The Music Institute, Prescription: The Chicago legend has been through it all, but if his recent activity is any indication, he's not done yet. In this in-depth interview, Chez Damier talks about his past, present and future with RA's Dave Stenton.

Along with a couple of friends, Chez Damier opened The Music Institute in Detroit in the late '80s. Every nascent music scene needs an outlet. And The Music Institute proved just as important for the development of techno in the city as The Warehouse and The Music Box had been for house music in Chicago a few years earlier.

Damier, AKA Anthony Pearson, could have stopped there, assured of a place in dance music history—albeit just a footnote. But, instead—and after a few years managing the KMS studio and label for Kevin Saunderson—he returned to his hometown of Chicago and, alongside Ron Trent, created a musical legacy deserving of an entire chapter. Between 1993 and 1995, the first 15 releases on the pair's Prescription label—widely regarded as one of the finest house imprints ever—crafted the blueprint for what would become known as deep house. And 15 years later the tracks they created together as Chez N Trent—most notably "Morning Factory," "Sometimes I Feel Like," "The Choice" and "Be My"—remain unparalleled examples of the genre.

When seemingly at the height of their powers, however, musical differences put paid to the partnership. Trent took sole control of Prescription and, for a year or so, Damier focused on the sub-label, Balance, before taking an extended break from the music industry. A handful of releases in 2004 and the odd DJ date hinted that a return was on the cards. But conclusive proof only came in 2009 when Damier committed to a series of releases for the German label Mojuba, as well as launching his own new project, Balance Alliance.

RA spoke to Chez prior to his recent DJ appearance at new London party, Lost In The Loft. The conversation covers his early clubbing experiences in Chicago, the development and subsequent breakdown of his relationship with Ron Trent and how, after so long out of the game, he is coping in an industry that has undergone widespread change.

Episode 95 NOICE! Presents P toile's Perfect Circle with Special Guest: Patrick Bateman (Tic Tac Toe, Connect Four / Copenhagen, DK)
January 05, 2010 06:25 AM PST
itunes pic

we are proud to present the 4th installment of the ever popular "Perfect Circle" podcast hosted by Berlin's P toile. today we welcome Tic Tac Toe // Connect Four Label Honcho .... Patrick Bateman...

enjoy and stay NOICE!

Yeah, we know, you might have given more notice to the blood and gore of the character from
the Bret Easton Ellis novel, but one thing’s for sure: That Patrick Bateman knew how to party
and it’s the same with this one.
Already a household name when the Danish club scene exploded in the late nineties, Kenneth
Broxgaard aka. DJ Patrick Bateman has been a key party player for almost two decades. He’s a
prime son of a Danish techno/house scene that just keeps on getting better and better and he
knows all the artistic effects down to the last beat, from vicious minimalism over luscious deep
tech-house.
He started spinning records in the early nineties with the early boy love for Inner City, Italian
house and rave music and in the years that followed Patrick Bateman has covered huge
amounts of space in an ever curious exploration of electronic party music.
Musically, Detroit techno and Chicago house made a huge impact on Patrick Bateman in 95
and so did the looping mono techno from Sweden and the UK a few years later. But minimal
techno and house have always taken up major parts of Bateman’s all-embracing record
shelves. Since 99/00, he has been spinning minimal techno and house exclusively German
style and with the odd twist of deep house and old school classics thrown in for good measure.
The last 7-8 years, Patrick Bateman has really made his mark. Touring everywhere in Denmark
and many venues in Europe, Bateman’s remarkably energetic, spot free sets have presented
the minimal techno/house vibe to an audience that’s moved from curious to responsive to
exhilarated.
In 2004, Bateman started the label Tic Tac Toe Records. The label is focusing on minimal
house and techno, primarily from all the Danish talents, but also with international acts. The
first 25 releases are already out, and have been played and charted by all the big DJ’s and the
name ‘Tic Tac Toe’ has been getting a lot of attention internationally. In Denmark it has led to
an award as best label in 2007 and a nomination for best label in 2008. In 2007 Connect Four
saw the light. This is the sister label to TTT focusing on deeper sounds.
Bateman has also started producing music, and he is follows his DJ trademark very closely
and you can be sure you will hear a lot more from him during the coming years on this front
too.
In 2008 Bateman won the award as ‘best upfront DJ of the year’ at Danish DJ Awards, showing
that he is still on forefront of things even after 14-15 years of DJ’ing.
The guy may not be guzzling blood like his alter ego, but he’s a superb DJ.

Episode 94 Android Cartel (VIVa MUSIC, EQ Recordings, Fade Records)
A special Happy New Years set from Android Cartel to listen to while you are getting all dressed up…
These Cats are amazing……… Happy New Years from NOICE!

About Android Cartel
From the farthest depths of humanoid computation comes the production team and DJ duo Android Cartel. Based out of Los Angeles robot masters Reagan Denius and Christopher Mohn are responsible for crafting the sound of West Coast tech-house and have exploded onto the scene with a ravenous force that only and android army could invoke.

With an attitude bumping enough for a dirty downtown warehouse, and moods big enough for the main room dance floor, the Cartel’s conception of atmosphere and rhythm has found a place amongst the biggest producer’s and DJ’s of modern dance music such as Luciano, Radio Slave, John Digweed, Steve Lawler, Ben Watt, Laurent Garnier, Carl Cox, Chris Fortier, Hernan Cattaneo, Chloe Harris and more!

Android Cartel have managed to walk a fine line with their influences of underground and mainstream club culture with releases on VIVa MUSIC, EQ Recordings, Fade Records, as well as underground favorites that continue to influence the shape of techno like Railyard, and Tekfunk.

The Android's have also built up a following in the Los Angeles area and have DJ'd many shows and have become local favorites as representatives and educators of the global sounds of house music. They have also created a buzz in the San Diego scene, playing at Giant's SPIN night club, as well as throwing many of their own parties in conjunction with Tekfunk.

The Androids also host a monthly internet radio show on Proton Radio that airs every third Wednesday of the month from 3PM - 5PM PST (6PM - 8PM EST). The show is called "Expressions in Sound," and has hosted guests such as Luca Bacchetti, Robert Babicz, Livio & Roby, Chris Fortier, Erphun, and many others.

Episode 93 Mihalis Safras (Trapez ltd.)
December 30, 2009 06:29 AM PST

Our 4th and Final Podcast celebrating the Trapez 100 series comes by way of one of our favorite artists..... please welcome back the Amazing Mihalis Safras....... NOICE!

Not much to say about the athenian DJ/producer and mastermind behind the Material Series. ''Mihalis Safras is concidered to be one of the most high-profiled artists and the most productive techno producer on the planet.'' (DJ Mag245) He started his career by djing in 1997 to some of the most notorious venues in Athens (Berlin, +Soda, Umatic, Venue) the period when a new electronic age was starting. Quite soon and after many years of successful djing he recognized djing wasn’t enough! Mihalis appears on at least a dozen 12-inches every year, establishing himself as one of world's most accredited producers through sheer will. The hard work has paid off in the form of releases on celbrated labels like Trapez, Great Stuff Recordings, Soma Quality Recordings, BPitch Control which had proven that he hasn't run out of creative gas. Furthermore he has collaborated for remixes on Ali Dubfire's 'Roadkill' and for a special mix on Britney Spears 'Breathe'. Mellowing his style as times goes by, getting more experimental and spacey with a fresh style of his own, Mihalis’s production is destined to the wiser dancefloors and most of his vinyls receive international awareness by reaching into charts of the biggest DJs like Sven Vath, Richie Hawtin, Dubfire, Adam Beyer, Ricardo Villalobos and many more. His astonishing discography and the friendship with the UK 'master' Mark Broom lead in 2006 to the birth of his own label and one of the best techno labels these days, Material Series. A smooth label built on the idea of releasing groovy club tunes with material names, all in coloured 12' vinyl. Material Series presents not only Mihalis' ideas on techno but also famous respected artists that included on Material roster. Also in mid of 2007 Material's 'sister' label, Playmobil, was born to embrace more melodic techno lovers. DJ-wise, his trade relies on housey & funky techno or what he describes as 'techno combining the hard and funky edges of the groovy minimal'. Travelling and speading his tricky sound around the globe, from Yellow (Tokyo) to Avalon (NY) he becomes a milestone of the international techno circuit. Once more expect much from Mihalis in 2010! (written by Lizz Goss, DJM) Make sure to check out his "Interafrica remixes" available with remixes by Mark Broom, The GLitz & Luciano Esse and Toni D... available digitally and in all good vinyl stores starting 10/26/09..... we are NOICE! and we love Trapez......

Enjoy the new NOICE! Episode as we continue our tribute to Trapez's 100th release with The incredibly talented; "deepchild" happy holidays and stay NOICE!

Touring top billing dj set along-side the likes of Richie Hawtin and Green Velvet (at the massive EXIT Festival, Serbia) Jeff Mills (Tribal Sessions in Leeds), Jesse Rose, Dixon and Sebo K (for Jesse's "Made to Play" monthly at Berlin's legendary Panorama Bar), M.A.N.D.Y (Watergate, Berlin), Ewan Pearson and WIll Saul (SONAR, Barcelona) to remix work for techno superstars, Booka Shade (voted best act and best record label, Get Physical, in dance bible IDJ last year), there's much that can be said for this genre-mashing producer. If the increasingly demanding international schedule of weren't enough (try playing Germany and then Kuala Lumpur in the space of 4 days!), a string of highly successful 12"s on labels and remixes last year have well and truly solidified deepchild's reputation as a serious 'contender' in the saturated international dance-music community.

London, Berlin, Tokyo, California, Vancouver, Cologne, Manchester, Leeds, Serbia, Kuala Lumpur and more have all featurer in this years extensive dj/live touring menu, with residencies in homeland of Sydney (AU) at Bread and Butter and KINK fleshing out time between quarterly European tours and a busy studio schedule. When not turning the dials in his studio in Bondi, Sydney, deepchild bunkers down for extended production duties in his unofficial 'second home' of various studios in Berlin (where much of his label-community and European booker are based).

From 'big-label' original releases for labels like US Om Records, remix work for legendary producers New Order, Booka Shade (Get Physical), deeper cuts for Trapez and Resopal Schallware, and serious tech-weapons for Anabatic, Affin (run by Kompakt's Joakim Spieth), Dieb and Detroit's own MDEX Records, a steady stream of bouncy, jackin' minimal sounds have insured deepchild has remained one of Australia's most in-demand producers. Hipp-e, Robert Babicz, Tigerstripes, Jimpster and Luomo have all leant their remix credits to deepchild 12"s....

The journey has been a long and sonically expansive one. Recent dj support from the likes of Justin Martin, Mattias Tanzman and Hipp-e, sits solidly against the proclamations of respected music journal, The Wire, who went as far as to proclaim that this sound was "as sexy and addictive as new-dub electronica gets". From quirky, stripped-back techno to deep dub explorations, deepchild has proven a robust producer and highly repsected dj and live-performer.

When Stereo-Heaven (the biggest dj store in Essen, Germany) found that their biggest selling tech-house record was infact written in a small share-house studio in Sydney's Inner-West (deepchild's "No Disgrace", on Future Classic), they took the time to make special mention of what is indicative of deepchild's head-turning appeal:
"over here in my hometown in germany, we really love "no disgrace"!! it's also by far the best selling record in our new local shop, too...from deep or tech house to minimal djs, hiphop and electronica fans - everybody is into that 3-tracker...really an amazing 12" you've created!"
Freerange Record's 'tech-house institution', Milton Jackson, phrased is rather more sucsinctly, "Oh My God. I think you are my new hero"

Episode 91 Marcus Sur (Trapez, Highgrade)
December 21, 2009 06:33 AM PST

we follow along our Merry Trapez 100 trail another outstanding talent. today...please welcome the Incredibly gifted, Marcus Sur.

about the artist:
Marcus Sur aka Marcus Frankowski started early discovering his passion for
music. At the age of 14 he founded his own band, where he - first as singer,
later as bass - inspired the audience in numerous concerts.
In the late 90s he exchanged the bass for 2 record players and started djing
in some clubs in the Ruhr area. At this stage he didn't want to commit to any
music style. Bored by the stagnation in Hardcore and Crossover he quickly
found a new home in the revolutionarily developing electronical music scene.
His design study led him to Essen where he soon got gigs in the legendary
House club "Rote Liebe". As resident DJ in the Essen club Baikonur he also
used to be an essential musical consultant and trend scout.

in celebration of the Trapez 100 Release.... we are proud to present a 4 part series leading us through the new year. Today... please welcome back to NOICE! the Legendary Florian Meindl..

Florian Meindl is a DJ, producer and sound designer. In addition to numerous collaborations with international artists he is busy with writing soundtracks for movies, advertisings, producing remixes (currently for Röyksopp & Hot Chip) and has just successfully completed his BA studies at the London College of Music. He also writes articles about music production in magazines like “FutureMusic” and does music production shows for the “Berlin Mitte Institut”. Till now his productions have been released on labels such as Trapez, Stil vor Talent, Resopal, Herzblut and Kling Klong. The 17th and current release on his own label FLASH Recordings is in production; this serves as a platform for continuous development and promises many unheard sound creations from Meindl’s universe.

If you ask the 24 year old musician about the origin of his exceptional career, he will describe it as an “early identification with electronic music” which occurred in a small village in beautiful Upper Austria. He sees himself as an artist who is passing this message on to a new generation.
The collaboration with Oliver Koletzki, founder and owner of Stil vor Talent, was certainly an important milestone. Both generated trend-setting productions from which some of the current club tunes and hits emerged. Meindl’s Solo E.P. “Sputnik” is his standard release, one of the essentials of a new minimal style, as is “Blast” which has just been remixed by Format:B for the100th release on Trapez. All in all, Meindl has released more than 100 tracks in very different genres during the course of his young musical development.
After prolonged stays in London Meindl, having adopted Berlin as his home, finally made to move to Berlin in 2009. Here he found the stage for further developing his music. From his new home-base he tours the world’s top clubs, because apart from the exceptional variety of his very own musical style both in music production and composition, he is known more than anything else for his precision in creating driving and diversified DJ sets. Closely following the present development, this demanding representative of the next generation of electronic music is presently focussing on the expansion of his international work. However, Meindl still finds the time to present his original and unique sound branding to a curious party crowd which is rapidly developing into a loyal community of fans.
In addition to his continuous touring and label work he also produces a sound design in the form of audio samples under the name “Riemann Kollektion” which has already taken its place in the standards of modern musical development. When one experiences the modest authority of this sound artist in the sometimes slightly morbid and fast moving scenario of today’s club music, one can look forward to the continued development of electronic music. Florian Meindl is certainly one of the most interesting representatives of the next generation of electronic music producers.

we at NOICE! always try and search out the most creative and forward thinking DJ's of our time. not always the DJ top 100, but always quality Electronic music. this set is no different. we are proud to present:

BlackIsBeautiful

Enjoy

An analogue idea within the digital age!

Ümit Han and Tim Dicke simply have one goal on the postmodern playground of electronic music art: black sound. Dirty, criminal and unconventional – and brutally honest at the same time.

Their deep connection to analogue art can be heard and experienced in their musical creations and their live performances. Inspired by machines’ aesthetics, they create polymorph sound syntheses coming from current sources. Noise-friendly sound fragments. Tension-steered, loaded with energy, attracting gravity. The foundation hides sizzling and scraping sounds of the technically versed music machines. Electrosphere!

Blackisbeautiful pull their musical approach out of honest chance. Lively, unpredictable, unreproducible. Ideas can be found in – as they call it – opportunistic vanguard. Occasional field recording and sampling in exactly this or another moment. Real-time art powered by childlike curiosity and an esoteric desire to experiment.

Self-confident simplicity and collective spontaneity cross their monochrome sound worlds and hypnotically lead from momentary fascination into the eternal moment. Colourful moments within black melodies!

The colour black – which is not really considered to be a real colour
brings true colours to bear.
In this process they fully unfold their splendour and beauty
like a butterfly.
Black is not colourful – but black creates colour.
Such as in music.
As black is beautiful.

Episode 87 Clint Stewart (Auralism)

our final podcast of the Blue Collar series comes your way via Clint Stewart.

Clint grew up in a home surrounded by music from classic rock, early blues, to
classical. He began training in classical piano and guitar. Over time his adolescent
obsession with punk's passion and aggression led to a college-age awakening to
techno's dark, relentless groove. A stint on UNF College Radio Station gave him the
opportunity to start Nocturnal Underground radio show where he met Marc Smith.
After college, Stewart moved to Miami and eventually joined forces with Auralism
co-founders Smith and Jason Short and began playing along with them at their
residency at Jazid. Within the year, Stewart moved to Hawaii for a brief "get away",
but was soon living in San Francisco after a gig in which he never stepped foot on
his return flight.
In just over two short years Clint has been rabidly carving his niche in the bay area
emerging techno scene. The assistant label manager/designer first made waves with
his breakout performance at 2007's Lovefest wowing the crowd of thousands. Since
joining the Auralism camp he has continued to build a name for himself and
winning fans every step of the way. He has shared the decks with the likes of Pan
Pot, Marc Schneider, Justin Maxwell, Sammy Dee, Exercise One, Franklin De
Costa, [a]pendics.shuffle, Stewart Walker, Bruno Pronsato, Falko Brockseiper, Sety,
& Shaun Reeves.
Never one to be defined by genres or trends Stewart easily commands crowds with
a style that drips with intensity, filled w/ sexy, gauzy cuts that exhort everyone to
dance. Aside from DJ'ing in of some of the best clubs in cities like Los Angeles,
Miami, New York, Seattle, Portland, Detroit, Honolulu and beyond. His
discography continues to grow. In 2008 he produced pair of ecstatic remixes for
the label's inaugural Aural Therapy 1.1 compilation. The new year will deliver a
string of remixes on fellow cohort Alland Byallo's label Nightlight Music already
receiving buzz from Chris Fortier, Claude Von Stroke, & Habersham. As if this
weren't enough the summer holds a mini tour of Europe, including a date at
Watergate. Be sure to keep your eyes on Stewart!
